Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman kicked out of Sydney Opera House

If you're blown away by a performance at the Grand Ole Opry, you give a standing ovation. But if you do the same thing at the Sydney Opera House in Australia, some random guy might smack you with his program.

It happened back in January to NICOLE KIDMAN, and according to KEITH URBAN, who was with her, "violence at the opera ensued." He did NOT unleash a whooping on the jerk, though. They argued, and the police were eventually called.

He said, quote, "It was a bit of a pickle that I was in because you're a husband and you want to defend your wife. You want to be a man's man, but you can't throw a roundhouse kick and knock him out."

It was Keith's first opera and he didn't know that it's "against tradition" to give a Standing O. But it's old school stuff that's on its way out, because Keith and Nicole only did it after seeing other people get up first.

Keith Urban appeared on an Australian radio show to talk about a recent incident at the Sydney Opera House during a performance ofThe Merry Widow.

Keith and Nicole didn't know that standing ovations at the opera go against tradition. He says, "We're sitting down, we're with Nic's mom and we're clapping. It was a bloody great performance, it was so good, and I'm looking around, and we're cheering and cheering, everybody's cheering, and I look around and I see a few people standing, and a few more, and I went, 'Oh, bloody hell, I'm getting up."

Keith confronted the man, which escalated into a verbal spat. Keith, Nicole and her mother were escorted out of the building.
