Pantone Reveals 2018 Color of the Year and It's So Empowering

The Pantone Color Institute announced that "Ultra Violet" is the 2018 Color Of The Year and it’s giving people all kinds of hope.

"There were the feminists of the 1970s who used [violet] as a way to stand outside the norm," Laurie Pressman, VP of the Pantone Color Institute which predicts the next year's color trends, said via Refinery29. "It's not a color women were wearing at the time — it's very dramatic — so to me it was really a sign of protest more than anything else. It's a way to say, 'How do I make a statement? How do I stand out above the fray?'"

Hillary Clinton also famously wore violet at her concession speech to represent unity among the red and blue states.

As pointed out by Pantone in a press release, musical icons Prince, David Bowie, and Jimi Hendrix have also “brought shades of Ultra Violet to the forefront of western pop culture as personal expressions of individuality.”

Past colors include Greenery, Rose Quartz, Serenity, Marsala and Radiant Orchid.
