King Charles III released his first statement since being hospitalized on Thursday (March 27) amid his ongoing cancer battle.
The beloved royal addressed the people of Myanmar following Friday's (March 28) earthquake that killed over 1,700 citizens in a statement shared to The Royal Family's Instagram Story (obtained by Page Six).
"My wife and I were most dreadfully shocked and saddened to learn of the devastating earthquake in Myanmar, with its tragic loss of life and appalling damage to homes, buildings, and livelihoods, not to mention the destruction of sacred pagodas, monasteries, and other places of worship."
The patriarch offered his and Queen Camilla's deepest sympathies to individuals affected by the tragedy and recognized the hardship they continue to face.
"I know that the people of Myanmar continue to endure so much hardship and tragedy... And I have long admired your extraordinary resilience and spirit. At this most difficult and heartbreaking of times, my wife and I send out deepest possible sympathy to all those who have suffered the profound tragedy of losing their loved ones, their homes, and their precious livelihoods."
King Charles III was taken to the hospital last week for "scheduled and ongoing medical treatment for cancer," per Buckingham Palace. Page Six mentioned that the beloved royal had experienced "temporary side effects" from his cancer treatment and had to cancel a few engagements.
