Syracuse basketball coach hits and kills pedestrian going home after game

Syracuse men's basketball coach JIM BOEHEIM struck and killed a 51-year-old man on Highway I-690 in New York just before midnight on Wednesday . . . hours after winning a game.

According to reports, the man was in a car that had just crashed into a guardrail. He got out and was walking on the highway, when Boeheim accidentally hit him. Police say Boeheim was trying to avoid hitting the car and didn't see the man.

The roads were a little at the time, but it's unclear if that played into either accident. Boeheim didn't have any drugs or alcohol in his system, and the police say he wasn't speeding.

Yesterday, Boeheim said he was "heartbroken."
