A few years ago, Sarah Jedd, blogger and communications professor at the University of Wisconsin, shared that she set no limits for her kids about eating their Halloween candy. She got pushback, but now experts says she is right. Carol Danaher, a registered dietician nutritionist and faculty member at the Ellyn Satter Institute, says âitâs the parentâs job to set up the structure and routine of meals, but that it is âthe childâs responsibility to decide how much to eat from what is served,â and Halloween is a special day for kids to enjoy. Kids will actually regulate their own eating when no restrictions are given, but if limits are placed theyâll try and get around it and gorge. In the end, itâs the parentsâ call.
