A teenager who was booked on a flight from Gainesville, Florida, to New York City with a layover in Charlotte was briefly detained and questioned by American Airlines staff before they canceled his ticket for a "skiplagging" violation. If you're not familiar with "Skiplagging," it's when a traveler books a flight with a layover in the intended destination city and then bails on the second leg of the journey. Oftentimes, it's cheaper than a nonstop flight. When this teen checked in to the flight, the gate agent in Florida noticed he had a North Carolina driver's license and suspected he was planning to end his trip in Charlotte and not continue on to New York. He was pulled aside and questioned until he told them that was his plan. His ticket was canceled, and his parents had to buy him a new nonstop ticket to Charlotte. The teen, and many other travelers, had no idea that it's a violation of American Airlines terms and conditions, and other airlines have the same rule.
